Maid of the Mist

It was a beautiful day at Niagara Falls and the Maid of the Mist was running, so we donned our park-provided ponchos and off we went!

There’s an elevator that takes you down to the loading dock. I took a picture of it as we pulled away.

First, the boat passes the American Falls. They’re not anywhere near as high nor as impressive as the Canadian Falls, but they’re still pretty incredible. I think there’s been more erosion at the site of the American Falls, as you can see from the giant boulders at the bottom.

The Canadian Falls are the ones that dare-devils have gone over in barrels and other assorted craft, some successfully and others fatally. These falls make you feel really, really insignifcant. The volume of water crashing down and the power of the water pounding into the river must be experienced to be appreciated.

Soaked, we returned to the dock as our sister-ship passed us on her way out to the torrent.
